Leviticus 11 – Clean and Unclean Foods.

Leviticus 11:1-3 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Say to the Israelites: ‘Of all the animals that live on the land, these are the ones you may eat: You may eat any animal that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud.”

A split hoof, completely divided represents those who have come through the knowledge of men to believe and rely on God. This is the salvation offered by God. The Lord used the word ‘divided’ in dividing of the sea that the Israelites can through from Egypt. From the understanding that the ‘sea’ represents the knowledge of men (which is salt water that does not quench thirst), it is those who have had come though the divide or ‘knowledge of men’, to believing that there is God, accepting his salvation fully. ‘Completely divided’ means to have fully accepted the salvation plan of God, and cut off from the old which is like Egypt.

Those who ‘Chew the cud’ represents those who chew on Gods word. In the Amplified Translation, Moses in Deuteronomy 14:6 says ‘bring up and chews’. Here, regurgitation is being spoken about. The Word of God is to be chewed on, and brought back up for more chewing. It is those who constantly chew on the Word of God, regurgitating it, over and over.

Leviticus 11:4-8 There are some that only chew the cud or only have a split hoof, but you must not eat them. The camel, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is ceremonially unclean for you. The Coney, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.

The Camel is unclean as it only chews the cud, and does not have a divided hoof. The camel is a person who eats the Word of God, but has not come through the divide into salvation, but hangs onto the knowledge of man. A camel also stores up its own water, and does not drink in the waters of God. Theologians are typical of camels! Jesus said in Matthew 19:23-24 “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through they eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God”. Jesus was saying It is easy for a theologian to believe the smallest details in the written word of God even though it may be wrong, than for a rich man to believe anything about the kingdom of God, and what it is like.

The Coney (or Rock Badger) is a small rabbit like creature which lives in rocky areas. It is very similar to a rabbit which lives in holes in the ground. These animals also have big ears. Rabbits and Conies are similar as they eat a little of the Word of God. However, they will not step into the salvation offered to them, by going through the divide. When danger comes rabbits hide in their holes in the ground, in darkness. And conies, when danger comes, hide in their belief of God who is the rock of salvation, but do not enter into the salvation of God. There are many rabbits and conies in this world. Many people on earth have heard a little of Gods word and hold onto that little and are satisfied with the little, but refuse to go through the divide, and into His salvation.

The pig has a divided hoof, yet eats almost anything. In this sense, it does not chew on the word of God, yet has comes through the divide of the knowledge of man, by faith, into the salvation of God. Pigs eat anything served to them without first checking to see if it is from the true Word of God. Jesus said “Do not throw your pearls to pigs”. Pearls are treasures that God has given you of great value, and the pigs just ignore their value and gobble them up, with no distinction between the ordinary and the precious. They have no respect or discernment of what God gives them, or anyone else gives them. They are unclean because they eat any teachings whether it be the full truth or not.

Leviticus 11:8. ‘You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you’.

The meat is the testimony that they give about God. Do not accept or listen to the testimony of the camels, coneys, rabbits or pigs. Also do not touch them, as touching them is putting into practice what they say. Their carcasses are the testimony they leave behind when they are dead. So when they are dead, don’t eat or practice what they have said.

Leviticus 11:9-12 Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales – whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water – you are to detest. And since you are to detest them, you must detest their carcasses. Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be detestable to you.

Jesus said in Matt 4:19 “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Fish are those men who swim in the sea of the knowledge of man. To eat a fish, first you have to catch it. When Jesus lets you catch a fish, you can eat of the testimony of that person when they speak of how Jesus saved them from their sin. Fish meat is not like animal meat, as it is much softer than red meat, and is more easily digested than red meat. Fish meat is enjoyed by many and very healthy to eat. But be careful of the bones in the fish. Pick out that which cannot be eaten. Jesus likes the fish to be flame cooked first, using the Words of Jesus. For it is written, “Is not my Word like fire”. Just like in John 21:9 Where Jesus was on the shore after His resurrection, with some fish and a fire of burning coals. Fish are those who have heard the testimony of Jesus, and have accepted him by faith.

Scales are protection for the fish as they swim around in the sea of the knowledge of man. Alternatively they could also be swimming around in the streams of water. The scales are like the pieces of ‘knowledge of men’ that people have to protect them as they make their way around in this world. Fish usually swim around in groups and move with the current flow, just as men gather in similar types of knowledge to protect them and help them in this world. This can also show why Paul had scales fall from his eyes when Ananias prayed for him. Paul lost his knowledge of men, and came into salvation through Jesus. Paul had already been cooked by Jesus, during the vision! The fins are used to help the fish move around in the water, and move them in the sea of the knowledge of man.

Sharks have no scales but have fins only. Sharks are like mindless predators, like men who have no knowledge or beliefs, values, compassion, etc. They go around devouring anything and everyone they can they can. Don’t listen to their testimonies.

Crustations are a group with very hard shells. They don’t have fins to help move them around in the sea of knowledge, but they have very hard shells with which to protect themselves. They stay where there are in one general position, as opposed to fish which generally flow with the water currents. These shells are like one scale, like a person who believes only one thing and sticks to it. These people are usually of various religions or radicals for various causes. Don’t listen to their testimonies.

Leviticus 11:13-19 These are the birds you are to detest and not eat because they are detestable: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture, the red kite, any kind of black kite, any kind of raven, the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.

In Verse 13 the Lord starts speaking on how certain birds are detestable. The Lord speaks of many of these birds, which represent rebellious spirits. The birds mentioned here are hunting birds, or birds of prey. Jesus mentions in Luke 8:5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on and the birds of the air ate it up.” We have talked briefly before about the powers of the air. These birds represent the powers of the air.
Also we can see this in Zechariah 5:9 where it mentions 2 women with wings like those of a stork, taking a basket with another woman in it.

Leviticus 11:20-23 all flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket, or grasshopper. But all other winged creatures that have four legs you are to detest.

In verse 20, the Lord mentions that some types of winged creatures may be eaten. These are locust and crickets etc. These are spirits that are kept by the Lord for destruction. Not to be destroyed by God, but to destroy as he allows. There are a few references to locusts in the written word, but all point in the same direction.

In Joel 2:25 “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten – the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm – my great army that I sent among you.” These are his locusts and his army.

Again these locusts are mentioned in Isaiah 33:1-4 and Revelation 9. Reference to the “Destroyer” can be found again in Exodus 12:23 “When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the tops and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.”

Again God says: Isaiah 54:16 “And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc;”

You can eat the testimony of the locust, but there is not much meat on their bodies. To eat them would not be very pleasant at all. To eat them would be crunchie, and also probably best roasted in the fire first. So be very careful what you eat of them as there is not much meat in their testimony.

The crickets, locusts, katydid, and grasshoppers have six legs, and walk on six legs. So why does God speak about ‘walks on all fours’? Feet are used for walking; and God sees how you walk with your feet. Your feet are to walk in the path of God. You choose how to walk and where you place your feet on the ground. You can choose either a righteous path or a evil path.

Leviticus 11:24 You will make yourselves unclean by these; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. Whoever picks up their carcasses must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening.

All the carcasses of these animals are unclean, meaning the clean and unclean meat, the birds, and the fish, as defined in the above verses. By touching their carcass you are listening to their testimony in your heart, and by picking up their carcasses you are listening to their testimony and putting their testimony into practice. Therefore you become unclean.

If you accept the testimony they give, then you must put the teaching to rest in your heart and forget about it. This is the meaning of ‘wait until evening’, which is when you go to sleep, or ‘rest’.

If you accept the testimony in your heart, and put it into practice then you must repent and put the issue to rest in your heart, which is the meaning of ‘wash with water’ and ‘wait until evening’ when you go to sleep.

Leviticus 11:27-31 Of all the animals that walk on all fours, those that walk on their paws are unclean for you; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. Anyone who picks up their carcasses must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. They are unclean for you. Of the animals that move about on the ground, these are unclean for you: the weasel, the rat, any kind of great lizard, the gecko, the monitor lizard, the wall lizard, the skink, and the chameleon. Of all those that move along the ground these are unclean for you. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean till evening.

These verses are expanding unclean animals to include cats and dogs and the like. Jesus said in Matthew 7:6 ‘Do not give dogs what is sacred’. Also in Revelation 22:15 ‘Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.’ The dogs have there own teachings and understandings. Dogs go back to their vomit as per Proverbs26:11, which is a type of regurgitation. They eat there own lies, and then choke on them, then go back to there own lies. Their own teachings include theories on how the world works extending across many different concepts from ‘alien beings’ to ‘evolution’ and many other theories of man! All these are unclean teachings.

Leviticus 11:32 When one of them dies and falls on something, that article, whatever its use, will be unclean, whether it is made of wood, cloth, hide, or sackcloth. Put it in water; it will be unclean till evening, and then it will be clean.

Wood ~ Wood represents the knowledge of God. Wood comes from trees as like the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the tree of life.

Cloth ~ Cloth represents righteousness acts before God- Isaiah 64:6 ”All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.”
Revelation 19:8 (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)

Hide ~ Hide represents the truth.– As in Ephesians 6:14 “and the belt of truth buckled around your waist. Belts are made from leather, which is made from animal hides.

Sackcloth ~ Sackcloth represents the message of repentance. – Sackcloth is usually worn by people who are repentant, or in the process of repentance, or who are mourning.
Sackcloth is similar to cloth which is used for righteousness, but it is righteousness in repentance.

If any testimony interferes with the fullness of any of these:
- The true knowledge of God,
- The truth of righteousness with God,
- The truth of God,
- The message of repentance before God.
It will make the truth of these items unclean and void. Note that God says ‘fall on them’. The carcass does not become part of the items, but only touches them. The items must be washed with water to be made clean again.

Leviticus 11:33-35 If one of them falls into a clay pot, everything in it will be unclean, and you must break the pot. Any food that could be eaten but has water on it from such a pot is unclean, and any liquid that could be drunk from it could be unclean. Anything that one of their carcasses falls on becomes unclean; an oven or cooking pot must be broken up. They are unclean, and you are to regard them as unclean.

The clay pot represents a person that is a vessel used by the Lord. When something unclean is accepted by that person such as an unclean testimony that is not from God, that person must be broken and not used. Any food in the pot that has water mixed with it, or liquid such as milk for the children that was in them, is contaminated and now is unclean. The water represents the Spirit of God, mixed with the Word, which is the food. That person can not be used again, and must be broken up.

Leviticus 11:35 Anything that one of their carcasses falls on becomes unclean; an oven or cooking pot must be broken up. They are unclean, and you are to regard them as unclean.

An oven or cooking pot is also a vessel that holds food, and is used to cook with. An oven is used to cook bread, and a pot is used to cook meat. The oven is a person who prepares the Word of God, as bread. It is the words of Jesus, who is the living bread. This person prepares and feeds the people with the words of Jesus. The pot is a person who prepares the testimony of God. God uses these vessels for his purpose, and if they accept anything unclean, then that vessel cannot be used by God and is broken up.

Leviticus 11:36 A spring, however, or a cistern for collecting water remains clean, but anyone who touches one of these carcasses is unclean.

A spring or cistern holds a large amount of water. The Holy Spirit is the water, and if anyone mixes an unclean teaching with the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit will always remain clean for us. But if any of us accepts or touches the carcass that has been mixed with the Holy Spirit, then we will be come unclean.

Leviticus 11:37-38 If a carcass falls on any seeds that are to be planted, they remain clean. But if water has been put on the seed and a carcass falls on it, it is unclean for you.

As Jesus said in the parable of the sower, the seed is the Word of God. The Word of God can become mixed with the unclean teachings and testimonies, but the words spoken by God will never change. It is when water is placed with the seed that the seed grows, and the seed can only grow by the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit is growing you, with the Word of God in you, you must not accept any unclean teaching or testimonies, and become unclean.

Leviticus 11:39-40 If an animal that you are allowed to eat dies, anyone who touches the carcass will be unclean till evening. Anyone who eats some of the carcass must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. Anyone who picks up the carcass must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening.

This refers to the teachings of those who have already passed away. We are not to eat their teachings and testimonies, and we are not to put their teachings into practice. We may look at them to see what they are talking about, but do not eat their testimonies or practice them. Including the Apostle Paul, and the other Prophets. Again, you may look at their carcasses, and see what they done, and said, and written about, but you are not to practice what they say, or eat their testimony.

Leviticus 11:41-45 Every creature that moves about on the ground is detestable; it is not to be eaten. You are not to eat any creature that moves about on the ground, whether it moves on its belly or walks on all fours or on many feet; it is detestable. Do not defile yourselves by any of these creatures. Do not make yourselves unclean by means of them or be made unclean by them. I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground. I am the Lord who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am Holy.

In Micah 7:17 “They will lick dust like a snake, like creatures that crawl on the ground.” The creatures that move about on the ground are the demons. Like the serpent, they eat the dust of the earth. This is why there is an extra strong warning in this section. It says that you will be defiled, as well as unclean. You are not to eat their testimony at all. You may look at them, but not eat their words. Interestingly, God says nothing about picking them up. This is because you can’t practice what demons do.

Leviticus 11:46-47 These are the regulations concerning animals, birds, every living thing that moves in the water and every creature that moves about on the ground. You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.

In this section, God says we must learn to distinguish between the unclean and the clean. We do this by reading his words, and listening to the Holy Spirit, and by putting into practice what he has spoken about. If any false teaching or testimony enters, we must learn to recognise it, and repent and lay it to rest.

This translation of the law is the beginning of the law resurrected.

When we can understand the law resurrected, we can understand Jesus and the prophets. For example: God says Hosea 2:18 “In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the creatures that move along the ground.” Now we can start to understand the full revelation of these verses.

Jesus saw these things in the law. It is hidden from those who fear God, and only look at the front of what God has said. Those who love God will not fear the law, but through love see the full truth of the law. This shows that Jesus knew his Father, and obeyed his Father, and was not mad as many have supposed, and even still suppose. This is the beginning of Justice for Jesus.
